First steps

A brand-new HiTradies account only needs a handful of details filled in before it's ready for real work — your business details, how you charge and get paid, and what you sell. All of it lives under Settings, and once it's set up you won't need to think about most of it again.

This page is a checklist, not a how-to — each item below links through to the full instructions for that setting.

Get your account ready

Work through these before you send your first quote or book your first job:

  1. Business profile — your name, logo and contact details appear on the quotes and invoices you send, and your business hours feed your online booking, so start here; see Your business details.
  2. Taxes — set the tax rate (or rates) you charge, GST at 10% for most Australian tradies; see Taxes.
  3. Payment details — add your bank accounts and the payment methods you accept, so clients know how to pay you and it prints correctly on your invoices; see Payment details.
  4. Services and products — build your catalogue of what you sell and what it costs, so quoting and invoicing later is picking from a list instead of typing prices in every time; see Services and products.
  5. Document settings — check how your quotes, invoices, proposals and jobs are numbered and worded, so the first one you send already looks right; see Document settings.

Skip one of these for now and it just means filling the gap in later — a quote going out without your logo on it, or an invoice with no bank details for the client to pay into. Nothing's locked in once and for all, but it's worth having the basics sorted before the first document actually goes out to a client.

Coming back later

None of this has to happen in one sitting. Everything above lives under Settings, so you can jump back in and change any of it whenever your business changes — a new bank account, a price rise, a different way of numbering your invoices.

Once your account's set up, the next step is understanding how work actually moves through HiTradies from here — from a customer's first enquiry through to the money landing in your account.
